Ombre. Ombre? Yeah, Ombre - for Joy's Life

When I first heard this word used in scrapbooking/cardmaking/paper  crafting circles, I thought it was being used incorrectly.  Surely they were talking a Mexican food?  Or a place to visit?  A card game?  The definition of ombre is the French word for color that is shaded or graduated in tone.

I had a few ideas of how I wanted to accomplish the ombre technique, but after much thought, decided on accomplishing it this way:

 

I used various cardstock colors, shading from light to dark, for the ombre look.

The sentiment is stamped on Kraft paper, and is from the Joy's

   Life stamp set, "It's All Fall Puns" has so many great sentiments for Fall.  You can find it, and all of Joy's wonderful stamps, here in her store.

 

 

I made this card large enough to fit in a business size envelope, so there's lots of card to work with. The "Autumn" and "Autumn" shadow are an SVG file from The Cutting Café.  The shadow paper is from Imaginisce.  The card base is from Close To My Heart (Vineyard Berry).  All the letters are cut from American Crafts Autumn cardstock. The leaves are from the SVG file for the Autumn card that I sized at various sizes.  I used twine from both Trendy Twine and Timeless Twine.

Best Witches -- for Joy's Life

 Happy Sunday, everyone. Joy is having a card parade on her Joy's Life blog today, featuring Halloween cards from her design team.  It wasn't a requirement to participate, but I so wanted to use this SVG file from The Cutting Café that I knew I HAD to participate!

 

 

Isn't this just the cutest? I used the Joy's Life Halloween Puns stamp set to stamp the fun "Best Witches" sentiment. 

 

 

The card was cut out on my Silhouette, and it uses the witch boot shaped card cutting file from The Cutting Café.  The Halloween papers are some of the first I ever bought.  They've been in my stash for a few years now, but I think they are from Fancy Pants.

It's Friday, and I'm ready for the weekend! It sounds like it's going to be a rainy one here in NW Wisconsin, so that means I should get some good crafty time getting inky in my craft room.  Yeah!

I have one card to share with you today.  It has a bit of a story with it.  My husband got a new Harley this summer -- his second.  He's had a few minor issues with it.  The most recent was not being able to get the gas cap off.  It broke on the bike and just went round and round.  Could be a problem! Fortunately, he still had enough gas to motor to the Harley shop, get it repaired and make it to a gas station. After they so quickly fixed his bike for him, he asked me to make a thank you card for the awesome Harley mechanics.  So I did:

 

 

This was a free (!) stamp set I got from Unity a few weeks ago during one of their sales called Tribal Trend.  I stamped the border stamped several times with 2 different, yet blending inks (Close To My Heart Sunset and Sorbet).  I cut up some 1 inch squares and glued them on the face of the card, alternating the border pattern of arrows.  I thought the arrows worked well for a bunch of motor heads. The sentiment is stamped in CTMH Barn Red ink -- the same color as the panel behind the squares.

My husband said.  "No bling!".  I told him, "those mechanics probably have studs in places we haven't even thought of!"  So, I had to add just a little, subtle bling.  they didn't seem to mind.

A new challenge starts today at the 3 Girl JAM challenge blog.  Being addicted to stamps, I'll take on any stamping challenge I can, so when I found out the theme of the challenge is "Fun with Digis", I knew I wanted to participate.  Then, when I knew Bugaboo Stamps was sponsoring, I knew I wanted in on it!

Since it's Fall, I picked out a Fall-themed image to work with. And one that work well with 3 Girl JAM ribbon, of course!!

 

I found a tutorial on Splitcoast Stampers for a modified tri-fold card.  I liked the look of it and decided to give it a try. There's several views to share with you.  The first one is with the card tied closed:

 

 

I used both ribbons from the Coffee Bundle to wrap around the card and tie it.  I love how well it all blends together!

This digi stamp is called Jar - Autumn.  Isn't it a great image?  I just love it!  I colored it with Copic markers.  The papers I used are from Imaginisce.

You can can see all the panels here, and the papers used.  Look closely and you can see the Fall leaves in my yard in the background.  Yeah, Happy Fall, Ya'll! (the sentiment is from Joy's Life It's All Fall Puns Stamp Set).

It's a Fall Feeling Bag for 3 Girl JAM

Fall is in the air -- trees are turning, nights are getting cooler, and the days are getting shorter.  I thought I would honor the season with a Fall-themed project for 3 Girl JAM today.

I love the Cotton Muslin bags from 3 Girl JAM.  They are easy to decorate and come in a variety of sizes.  The bag I used today is a 5x7 Muslin bag.

I used the Close To My Heart September Stamp of the Month: Poster Tidings.  I used two different colors of CTMH pigment ink on this, blending them on some of the words.  I was trying for a true Fall feel.  I took out the drawstring that came with the bag and threaded in a piece of 3 Girl JAM Harvest Orange ribbon from the Harvest Bundle.  There are so many colors of ribbon, you can match just about any ink.  This matched the CTMH Sunset and New England Ivy inks perfectly.

Here's the other side of the bag:

 

 

I used CTMH Cocoa and Sunset pigment inks on this side of the bag, and again, you can see the 3 Girl JAM Harvest Orange ribbon threaded through the top.

I think this will make a wonderful gift for the Thanksgiving holiday -- or any Fall occasion.

If the Broom Fits.... for Pinque Peacock

Happy Hump day everyone, and the second day of October already! Since we're into October, I'm into Halloween mode.  I make quite a few Halloween cards to give out to the nursing home residents where I work, so I've begun making cards for them already.  Here's a rather "spooky" witch I made that uses a Pinque Peacock chevron fabric covered button (3/4 inch).  LOVE this button!  It goes on so many different projects!

 

 

 

The witch image is a stamp from Unity Stamp Company that I colored with Copic markers..  The sentiment is from My Pink Stamper.  Or should that be Pinque? Papers are from Close To My Heart.

And, that luscious chevron button on top of the 3 Girl JAM Tuxedo black crinkle ribbon?  We all know, that's PINQUE PEACOCK!

It's Take Out Boxes at The Cutting Cafe!

This week at The Cutting Café, it's all about Chinese Take Out boxes.  The whole design team is making them, and I'm sure there will be a great variety of decorations, papers, and themes used on this week's assignment.

I'm in a Halloween mode right now, and I thought this box was the perfect size for a little treat box filled with Halloween candy, so that's the theme I went with...

I used Spellbound 12x12 papers from Close To My Heart on this box.  The glitter brads, puffy ghosts and bats are all from Making Memories. I cut the box out on my Silhouette, and it went together very quickly.
